Idea for 3g/4g on Ipod Touch?

So I have an Ipod Touch 4g because, like most people, I think the coverage and rates for Iphones SUCK. But most people know, there are now apps for free text and even free (or practically free) voice and video calling to any phone that work with the Ipod Touch. Obviously if you could somehow have internet everywhere on your Ipod Touch, it could replace your phone. But sadly there is now way to do this... YET! Many networks like verizon have small devices the size of a flash drive that give your laptop or computer 3g coverage. What if you took the same principle and applied it to the Ipod Touch? Or even the Ipad? The technology is there, you just have to alter the 3g receiver for compatibility. And I know that the 3g on such a simple device would be WAY lower in price next to a full plan plus data package for any touch-screen phone. If you think this idea has any feasibility, let me know, and let everybody know because I want to see this happen. I think with that kind of competition, phone companies would HAVE to cut down on the BS prices and fees they shoot out.
