What happens when you hide all posts from a certain user on facebook?

I hid all posts from a certain friend on my facebook but does that mean it hides every post like if they make comments on my status or posts on my wall do those get hidden as well? Or does it only work to hide their status updates? I do not want to unfriend this person because I do not want to be rude but I am getting tired of some of the comments they leave. Anyone know?
