Feasibility of a skyhook - space elevator?

Well right now we do not have the cable strong enough to deal with the stress and extreme environment of the upper atmosphere. It would have to sustain high wind gust, heat, water, projectiles, and other hazards. Scientist are currently trying to come up with the synthetic fiber needed, but that is sort of beyond our reach for now.
