How successful are they truly and difficult it it to actually build an online business with advertising?

The concept seems simple but as I become more educated I have to question the feasibility of this business for someone who is not Internet savvy. The wave of the future is Internet marketing which requires Affiliate Marketing but is this business for the "Average", person? I am reviewing several programs. Most credible being Anthony Morrison-Advertising Profits From Home, reviews, comments please.
